To conclude No Name Calling Week, our middle school students viewed The Pledge assembly today. The Pledge, produced by Camfel Productions, is a three screen presentation that incorporates popular music, movie clips, and real life stories about bullying to promote the message of valuing others. Students are encouraged to make a positive impact by building others up with their words, actions, and attitudes, rather than tearing them down. We had two separate presentations, one for 5th and 6th grade and another for 7th and 8th. The 5th and 6th grade version incorporated more cartoons and omitted the drug and alcohol anecdotes included in the 7th and 8th grade assembly. You can "preview" the 6th-12th grade version at the Camfel Website. The preview actually shows the assembly in its entirety, but you don't quit get the full effect of viewing it on three huge screens with surround sound. It did seem to capture students attention. Along with the assembly, Camfel Productions provides a free discussion guide to help teachers address the content of the program within the classroom. Student Pledge Cards (as shown below) can also be downloaded from the Camfel website.
